Two weeks ago, an AmCham EU delegation was represented at the 2022 World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum in Geneva. The Public Forum brings together delegates from across the globe to discuss the most pressing challenges and opportunities for the global trading system. On the heels of the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) which took place in June, the Public Forum provided a platform for over 3000 participants to deliberate on how trade can help build a more sustainable and inclusive economic recovery.
AmCham EU at the WTO Public Forum 2022
Two weeks ago, an AmCham EU delegation was represented at the 2022 World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum in Geneva. The Public Forum brings together delegates from across the globe to discuss the most pressing challenges and opportunities for the global trading system. On the heels of the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) which took place in June, the Public Forum provided a platform for over 3000 participants to deliberate on how trade can help build a more sustainable and inclusive economic recovery.
The Forum featured 144 sessions including a panel organised by AmCham EU. The panel, moderated by Nadia Allen, Associate Policy Manager, AmCham EU, included speakers Bryce Baschuk, Reporter, Bloomberg News, David Boublil; Deputy Head of Unit, Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union, European Commission; Tim Figures, Associate Director, EU and Global Trade and Investment, Boston Consulting Group; and Charlotte Sieber-Gasser, Senior Researcher and Lecturer, Centre for Trade and Economic Integration, Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies. The discussion explored how transatlantic trade can help accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable economy. While the global trading system faces many challenges, there remains significant opportunity to further align shared objectives to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
AmCham EU is a strong supporter of a rules-based trading system and will continue to be a constructive partner in reaching sustainability objectives. Continuing a dialogue with key stakeholders will be critical in the coming months and years. The delegation met with Angela Ellard, Deputy Director General, WTO; Jeremy Green, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Representation to the WTO; Naoki Hikota, Minister, Japanese Representation to the WTO; Clare Kelly, New Zealand Permanent Representative to the WTO and João Aguiar Machado, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the European Union to the WTO.

Meeting with Deputy Secretary Landau to advance transatlantic cooperation
On Tuesday, 2 December, AmCham EU took part in a roundtable discussion with Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State. With the implementation of the EU-US Framework Agreement moving forward, the discussions focused on building a more stable and competitive transatlantic business environment. Participants discussed the importance of an open Single Market and the urgency to move ahead with the EU’s work on simplification. The exchange also underlined the value of the transatlantic marketplace as a springboard for American companies to compete globally. Strengthening the partnership makes both sides more resilient and better positioned to respond to strategic challenges, including those posed by non-market economies.

Advocating for open, rules-based trade in Strasbourg
On Tuesday, 25 and Wednesday, 26 November 2025, AmCham EU travelled to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. Over the two-day programme, the delegation met with nearly a dozen MEPs and advisors for an exchange on the future of EU trade policy. Discussions centred on the importance of transatlantic cooperation, the ratification of the EU-Mercosur agreement and the implementation of the EU-US Framework Agreement. Members underlined the need for an ambitious EU trade agenda that ensures market access, reduces tariff and non-tariff barriers and strengthens the resilience of European industry. The delegation also called for a swift adoption of the Commission’s proposal on tariff reduction on US industrial goods and reiterated the importance of a pragmatic, forward-looking transatlantic agenda that promotes predictability and economic security.

AmCham EU meets with Ambassadors Greer, Puzder and White
On Friday, 21 November AmCham EU joined Ambassadors Jamieson Greer, United States Trade Representative, Andrew Puzder, US Ambassador to the European Union and Bill White, US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium. During the discussion, Malte Lohan, CEO, AmCham EU voiced strong support for the EU-US Framework Agreement, which offers the best path to improve the trade and investment climate, while addressing concerns about the economic impact of broad tariffs. AmCham EU continues to support other key parts of the deal, as well as calling on the European Parliament and Council to quickly adopt the Commission’s tariff reduction proposals with minimal changes.
