A sustainable leap for Belgian industry

On Monday, 16 October, Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU attended the inauguration of Janssen Pharmaceutica's new geothermal power plant in Beerse, Belgium. Speaking at the inauguration was Jan Jambon, Minister-President, Government of Flanders. With the opening of the plant, Janssen Pharmaceutica have become the first company in Belgium to use geothermal energy to heat their plant, resulting in their energy consumption immediately dropping by 30%. Funding for the project came through the European Regional Development Fund showing how the private sector, regional governments and the EU can unite to drive sustainable change.

Calling for clearer and innovation-friendly chemicals policy

On Monday, 29 September 2025, AmCham EU hosted a roundtable on the future of EU chemicals policy. Opening remarks were delivered by Ana-Maria Blass Rico, Acting Head of Unit, REACH, Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs and Paul Speight, Head of Unit, Safe and Sustainable Chemicals, Directorate-General for the Environment, European Commission. Members highlighted the need for clearer guidance, flexible approaches and realistic timelines to support both safety and competitiveness. The meeting closed with a strong call to ensure that future policy remains practical, innovation-friendly and aligned with Europe’s industrial ambitions.

Raising the roof for sustainable insulation
